[Korea Buzz] Why Uber Failed In Korea

Recently, a couple of Korean taxi drivers set themselves on fire in protest against Kakao Carpool and other ridesharing services.

We tried to get as many perspectives as possible to get to the bottom of this issue. This is what we found out.

Great points on both sides of the argument. It's their country, so whichever side they choose it's going to have a big impact on thousands if not millions of lives. I personally use Lyft daily here in Las Vegas, Nevada, I love it. It's a lot cheaper, time efficient, and easily user friendly.

I'm currently working in Colombo, Sri Lanka and uber is the only way for me to get around without being scammed all the time. Whenever I took a local taxi or a taxi from their local app they would make me pay twice or 10 (!) times more than the actual fare, cause I'm a foreigner.

That's insane, setting yourself on fire, not the best way to protest.

korean taxi drivers are assholes. They crack the window down an inch and asks where you're going. If its an inconvenience to them, they just drive off....

Uber is a predatory company that exploits it's workers and destroys financial systems, most drivers make below minimum wage and give all the profits to the executives. They're good at politics and influence local legislators to let them operate when many times it's illegal for them to do so. Many of the execs in the localities are former municipal workers who use their knowledge to spread the pestilence, these incidents are nothing new, in the US drivers have been committing suicide for at least 4-5 years now. This is an example of crony capitalism and corrupt politicians harming instead of protecting the citizens. Uber is a the forefront of autonomous vehicles to maximize their profits, they don't care who and how many they hurt, fucking sociopaths.
