
Torrential downpours swept across South Gyeongsang Province on July 19, resulting in a total of 31 casualties, including five deaths, two people missing, and two in cardiac arrest, according to local authorities.
The Gyeongnam Fire Department reported that at approximately 9:25 a.m., a landslide occurred in Byeongjeong-ri, Sancheong-eup, Sancheong County, burying a house and leaving a man in his 60s found in cardiac arrest. At 10:46 a.m., another landslide struck Naeri Village in the same township, killing two people in their 40s and rescuing one survivor from inside the home.
Around 12:35 p.m., heavy rainfall triggered a landslide in Buri Village, also in Sancheong-eup, engulfing two houses and claiming the lives of two people in their 20s, while one person remains missing. Around the same time, a home in Danseong-myeon was submerged, and a man in his 60s was transported to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest. Another individual from the area is currently unaccounted for.
Later in the day, at 4:20 p.m., a vehicle in Cheongdo-myeon, Miryang, was swept away by strong currents, resulting in the death of the driver, a man in his 60s.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with six residents still unreachable due to communication outages. Among them are two people stranded in a home in Oego-ri, Sancheong-eup. Authorities have so far completed rescues for 16 individuals.
From July 16 to 3 p.m. on July 19, the province recorded an average cumulative rainfall of 266.5 millimeters, with some regions experiencing over 500 millimeters of "extreme rainfall." The most severely affected areas include Sicheon-myeon in Sancheong County (764 mm), Daebyeong-myeon in Hapcheon (698 mm), and Okjong-myeon in Hadong (643 mm).
In response to the escalating danger, Sancheong County issued an emergency evacuation order for all residents earlier in the day.
