A college acquaintance of YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung Won) has been indicted for spreading false claims that she vomits after eating, commonly referred to as “mukto.”
According to the legal community, on March 20, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Acting Chief Prosecutor Lee Sang Hoon) summarily indicted an individual identified as Oh, a former college acquaintance of Tzuyang, on February 2 on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. Prosecutors requested a fine of 7 million KRW (approx. 4,651 USD). A summary indictment is a procedure in which prosecutors seek a court ruling, such as a fine, through a written review rather than a full trial.
Oh is accused of providing false information in November 2020 to YouTuber Jeon Guk Jin (known online as “Jujak Gambyeolsa”), claiming that they witnessed Tzuyang showing signs of vomiting after filming a “giant pasta” mukbang. The allegation was later made public through a YouTube broadcast in July last year, sparking controversy.
During the investigation, Oh denied the charges, insisting the claims were true. However, prosecutors rejected the argument, citing that the date Oh allegedly met Tzuyang was the broadcast date of the mukbang video, not the filming date. They also pointed to discrepancies between Oh’s claims and the testimonies of other witnesses present at the time, concluding that the report was false.
The case was initially investigated by the Seoul Hyehwa Police Station following a complaint filed by Tzuyang’s side. Prosecutors took over the case in December last year and conducted supplementary investigations.
Meanwhile, Jeon Guk Jin, who was accused of extorting tens of millions of KRW from Tzuyang based on the false report, has received a finalized sentence of one year in prison, suspended for three years.
