The films 'The King's Warden' (directed by Jang Hang Jun) and 'Humint' (directed by Ryu Seung Wan) are gearing up for an intense head-to-head battle over the Lunar New Year holiday.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, 'The King's Warden' claimed the No. 1 spot at the box office on February 12, drawing 83,917 moviegoers. The film’s cumulative audience has now reached 1,365,904.
'Humint,' meanwhile, surrendered the top position just one day after its release. On the same day, it attracted 81,189 viewers, bringing its total to 212,817. Although it engaged in a neck-and-neck race with 'The King's Warden,' it narrowly missed the crown.
The gap between the two films stands at just 2,800 admissions, setting the stage for a fierce two-way rivalry throughout the holiday period. Industry watchers expect the heated competition to inject renewed energy into theaters.
The two titles offer distinctly different appeals. 'The King's Warden' centers on Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty, and tells the story of a village chief who cares for the exiled former monarch. The on-screen chemistry between Park Ji Hoon and Yoo Hae Jin has been praised for captivating audiences.
'Humint' marks the latest action project from Ryu Seung Wan. Set in Vladivostok, Russia, the film follows individuals with differing motives whose paths intersect in a high-stakes narrative. Performances by Jo In Sung and Park Jung Min have been widely lauded as standout highlights.
