The production team of Netflix dating reality show 'Single's Inferno' firmly denied rumors that cast member Lee Sung Hun is the grandson of former South Korean president Lee Myung Bak.
On February 13, the producers of 'Single's Inferno 5' held a press interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Producers Kim Jae Won, Kim Jung Hyun, and Park Su Ji attended the event and reflected on the recently concluded season.
While the 'Single's Inferno' series has consistently drawn attention for its standout cast, this season particularly spotlighted Lee Sung Hun, who formed the final couple with Choi Mina Sue. Speculation arose online due to Lee Sung Hun’s resemblance in appearance and voice to former president Lee Myung Bak, leading to rumors that he might be the ex-president’s maternal grandson.
Addressing the speculation, the production team stated, “We also thought they looked so alike that we wondered if it might be true, so we asked Lee Sung Hun directly. He said it wasn’t true and was quite flustered by the rumor. The claim that he is the former president’s grandson is completely false, and they are not even distant relatives.”
Lee Sung Hun also gained attention for his impressive background. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he currently works as a quant trader on Wall Street in New York. Regarding the perception that this season featured contestants with exceptionally high qualifications, the producers clarified, “It’s just that a few contestants, including Lee Sung Hun, stood out because of their strong credentials. Our casting criteria are strictly focused on appearance.”
'Single's Inferno' is a bold dating reality show set on a remote island called “Inferno,” where singles must become couples in order to leave. Season 5 recorded 3.1 million views and 45.1 million hours watched, ranking No. 2 in the Global Top 10 (Non-English Shows) for three consecutive weeks.
