Netflix’s original Korean series 'Boyfriend on Demand' is generating massive buzz even before its premiere.

According to the OTT K-Original Viewer Evaluation Report released by Consumer Insight for the third week of February, 'Boyfriend on Demand' ranked first in the drama category. Its anticipation reached peak levels before a single episode was released, signaling strong prospects for success.

Set to stream globally on Netflix starting March 6, 'Boyfriend on Demand' is a romantic comedy that follows webtoon producer Mi Rae (played by Jisoo), who is worn out by her office life. Through a virtual dating subscription service called “Monthly Boyfriend,” she experiences dating with multiple men. The series blends relatable workplace realism with the unique concept of subscribing to romance in a virtual world, building anticipation even before viewers tune in.

The show has drawn attention for its star-studded cast before release. Alongside lead Seo In Guk, the special appearances include Seo Kang Jun, Lee Soo Hyuk, Ong Seong Wu, Lee Jae Wook, Lee Hyun Wook, Kim Young Dae, Jay Park, and Kim Sung Cheol. In total, nine male actors appear as Mi Rae’s boyfriends, creating an unprecedented ensemble.

Released stills highlight each character’s distinct personality. Eun Ho (Seo Kang Joon), standing alongside Mi Rae on a cherry blossom-filled campus, radiates the innocent excitement of first love. Chaebol heir Si Woo (Lee Soo Hyuk) dazzles Mi Rae with glamorous and sparkling dates, appearing outwardly cold yet secretly passionate. Other male leads showcase diverse charms: a secret agent (Ong Seong Woo) suddenly appearing before flight attendant Mi Rae, a reliable senior doctor (Lee Jae Wook), a likable judge (Lee Hyun Wook), and a top star (Jay Park). Kim Sung Cheol, appearing as Mi Rae’s ex-boyfriend Se Jun, introduces a real-world romance line that contrasts with the sweetness of the virtual world, adding intrigue.

Seo In Guk expressed his affection for the project in an interview with Singles Japan’s March issue. He explained that he was drawn first by the show’s world, emphasizing the layered emotions that unfold on top of the virtual dating simulation concept. Describing his character, Kyungnam, he said, “He appears cold but is exceptionally competent at work, while also possessing a clumsy side,” distinguishing it from his own personality. Seo In Guk described himself as playful and emotionally candid, noting the contrast with his character.

He praised co-star Jisoo as “the energizer on set and a perfect fit for her character,” adding that as filming progressed, the actor and character felt almost inseparable. Jisoo’s past faced criticism over acting skills, so audiences are eager to see if this role will showcase both her visual appeal and acting ability.

'Boyfriend on Demand' premieres on Netflix on March 6.
