Actor Kim Tae Hyung’s tragic family history is once again drawing public attention.
Recently, an online community resurfaced a post titled “The Actor Who Lost All Three of His Children at Once,” revisiting Kim Tae Hyung’s appearance on MBN’s 'Special World' in 2022, where he shared an update on his life following the devastating incident.
Kim Tae Hyung suffered an unimaginable tragedy in 2012, when his wife, identified as Ms. A, killed their three sons and was later found at a motel. Speaking on the program, Kim Tae Hyung described his wife as “a good mother,” saying, “She treated the children well and lived modestly without extravagance. At the time, I was extremely busy as the kids were growing up. I became rougher and more irritable with them, and I could feel it. I remember wondering why she seemed so irritated back then.”
He continued, “One day, my wife said she was going to take the kids out for some fresh air, but she never came back. I reported it to the police, and about a week later, they contacted me to say they had found her. I was in complete panic.”
At the time of the incident, the three boys were just 8, 6, and 3 years old. Ms. A took them to a motel, where she killed them. Kim Tae Hyung said that even now, he does not know what drove his former wife to commit such an act. He requested meetings to understand her reasons, but those requests were denied. She was ultimately sentenced to 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be released in 2033 at the age of 59.
Kim Tae Hyung divorced his wife shortly after the incident. Reflecting on his emotions, he said, “Hatred and anger are already gone. The word ‘forgiveness’ feels more like a metaphor. I’m just enduring.” Following a long hiatus from the entertainment industry, he suffered from severe panic disorder and depression. On a friend’s recommendation, he began working in sales and also expressed a desire to return to acting.
He shared that he gets through each day by writing letters to his children in heaven. “I tell myself I have to live diligently so I can meet them in heaven. If I go to hell, I won’t be able to see my children,” he said, expressing his profound grief.

He became known as a veteran supporting actor in historical dramas, appearing in works such as 'Daughters of a Rich Family,' 'Chang Noksu,' 'Tears of the Dragon,' 'Taejo Wang Geon,' 'Empress Myeongseong,' 'Rustic Period,' 'Yeon Gaesomun,' and 'Jeong Do Jeon.'
