The upcoming film 'The King’s Warden' (directed by Jang Hang Jun) has entered the final countdown to its release.
On January 14, distributor Showbox released the film’s first trailer. Running approximately 1 minute and 10 seconds, the video teases a hidden story buried deep within Korean history.
The trailer opens with Eom Heung Do (played by Yoo Hae Jin), the village chief of Gwangcheongol. After hearing that a neighboring village prospered by properly hosting an exiled nobleman, he sets his sights on turning Cheongnyeongpo into an official place of exile.
His efforts pay off. Cheongnyeongpo is selected as an exile site, and Eom welcomes the exile, Lee Hong Wi (played by Park Ji Hoon), together with the villagers, dreaming of a brighter future.
The tone quickly shifts. Lee Hong Wi is no ordinary nobleman. Tension rises when it is revealed that he is a former king who was dethroned and driven into exile.
The trailer hints at the violent currents of a turbulent era. Han Myeong Hoe (played by Yoo Ji Tae), one of the most powerful figures of the time, delivers a chilling warning: “Anyone who communicates with Nosan must die.”
A striking scene shows Lee Hong Wi standing up to Han Myeong Hoe, declaring, “I don’t want to lose the people I cherish and love because of me,” raising intrigue about the former king’s inner transformation.
The film also promises a strong ensemble cast, with Park Ji Hwan as the magistrate of Yeongwol, Lee Jun Hyuk as Prince Geumseong, and Ahn Jae Hong as the chief of Norugol, adding depth and richness to the story.
'The King’s Warden' centers on a village chief who volunteers his town as an exile site to revive it, and the young deposed king is sent there against his will. The film is set to hit theaters on February 4.
