Singer Sung Si Kyung shared heartfelt and realistic advice with junior artist Hwa Sa, speaking openly about music, success, and longevity as a performer.
On January 9, a new episode titled 'Sung Si Kyung’s Eat Together | Mangwon Station Mongolian Fresh Salt Grilled Meat (with Hwa Sa)' was released on Sung Si Kyung’s YouTube channel.
During the video, Sung Si Kyung expressed his gratitude to Hwa Sa for repeatedly appearing as a guest at his concerts, as the two sat down to discuss their lives as singers. He asked about her recent success, saying, “Doesn’t it feel great to rank No. 1 on the charts?”
When Hwa Sa responded positively, Sung Si Kyung followed up by asking who had written the song. Hwa Sa explained, “I wrote it together with Woosang brother and our producer. We were struggling with the lyrics for the B part, but Ahn Shin Ae sister happened to be going through a breakup at the time, so she wrote that section and sent it to us. That’s how the song naturally came together.”
When Sung Si Kyung asked how it felt to see the song succeed, Hwa Sa replied, “I didn’t make this song expecting it to do well. I just wanted to honestly express emotions that had been trapped inside me. Hearing that those feelings resonated with people made me happier than ranking first.”
The conversation later shifted to concerts. Sung Si Kyung reflected on his recent performance, saying, “After finishing my January 4 concert, I realized just how exhausting it was.” When Hwa Sa asked if he still felt refreshed afterward, he answered, “Of course. It was incredibly hard, but it made me very happy.”
Offering sincere advice to Hwa Sa, who is preparing for her own concert, Sung Si Kyung said, “Starting with this performance, I hope that even when you enter your 40s, people will still say, ‘Hwa Sa’s concerts are really amazing.’”
He then delivered what he called an “open secret” in the industry, adding firmly, “Don’t do things just to look cool.” He continued, “You should only think about what people enjoy. But most people fail at that because they want to look cool themselves. You have to perform like Psy, like Kim Jang Hoon and like me.”
Sung Si Kyung concluded by emphasizing balance, saying, “Of course, you need to sing well and look cool. That’s the foundation. But you have to mix those two properly. If you minimize performances made purely for self-satisfaction, you can have a long career in Korea.”
