Independent arthouse cinema Picturehouse will host a special curated retrospective titled “Ahn Sung Ki in the 21st Century.”
After reaching the peak of his stardom as one of Chungmuro’s most iconic actors throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Ahn Sung Ki continued, from the 2000s onward, to show unwavering support for independent cinema, taking on not only supporting roles but also appearing in numerous indie films.
The retrospective will revisit Ahn’s filmography in the 21st century. Key titles slated for screening include 'Paper Flower,' which earned him the Best Actor Award at the Houston International Film Festival, as well as 'In the Name of My Son,' 'Unbowed,' 'Revivre,' and 'Cassiopeia.'
In addition, an accompanying exhibition will be held in the gallery located in the theater lobby. The display will feature stills of Ahn Sung Ki captured by renowned photographer Koo Bon Chang, along with behind-the-scenes images and video materials.
A series of Q&A sessions with directors and actors who have worked closely with Ahn is also in preparation. Details regarding participants and moderators will be announced at a later date.
Explaining the intent behind the program, Picturehouse stated, “Rather than remaining a simple tribute or retrospective, we hope audiences will preserve in their memories the image of Ahn Sung Ki as an actor who always breathed alongside viewers of his time.”
The “Ahn Sung Ki in the 21st Century” retrospective will run for one month, from February 5 through March 5.
