Lee Sung Kyung reached another milestone in her career, firmly establishing her presence on the musical stage and earning recognition for her versatility across genres.
At the 'Korean Musical Awards' held on January 19, Lee received the Best New Actress award for her performance in the musical 'Aladdin.' Taking the stage to accept the honor, she introduced herself as “musical actress Lee Sung Kyung” and shared her heartfelt reflections.
“This was a stage I dreamed of for 16 years,” she said. “I loved musicals so much that I was afraid I might never be worthy of standing on this stage, so I kept putting it off. Through Aladdin, I was given an opportunity far greater than I deserved. This past year has been the happiest year of my life.”
She continued by thanking the Aladdin cast and crew, as well as audiences and fans, adding, “Because of you, I was able to grow. I will continue to work harder and more humbly to become an actor who can bring happiness to others.”

Set in the mystical kingdom of Agrabah, Aladdin follows the story of adventure, love, and destiny. Lee took on the role of Princess Jasmine for her first musical challenge and impressed audiences with stable vocals and a thoughtful interpretation of the character. Her performance blended confidence with emotional nuance, earning strong praise and even the affectionate nickname “Jasmine” from fans.
The win holds special meaning as Lee previously received a Best New Actress award at the '2015 MBC Drama Awards.' Nearly a decade later, she has once again claimed a newcomer title in a different field, highlighting her steady growth as an all-around actor active in drama, film, variety shows, and musical theater.
After completing her successful musical run, Lee is set to return to television. She will star as Song Ha Ran, the head designer of Korea’s leading high-end fashion house, in MBC’s upcoming Friday and Saturday drama 'In Your Radiant Season,' which premieres on February 20. With posters and teasers already revealing a calmer and more emotionally layered performance, attention is building around Lee Sung Kyung’s next transformation as she continues to move seamlessly between stage and screen.
