Singer and musical actor Kim Jun Su appeared as a special MC on the January 18 broadcast of SBS's variety show 'My Little Old Boy' and shared honest stories about his wealth, childhood hardships, and family.
Hosts Seo Jang Hoon and Shin Dong Yup asked about the rumor that his income increased 100 times after he started doing musicals. Kim Jun Su admitted this was true. He explained that after leaving the group TVXQ, he could not appear on television. To prove his success and existence to the world, he once bought 15 supercars and luxury items.
However, he revealed a heartbreaking reason behind his obsession with nice houses. He confessed that his childhood home was a single semi-basement room, even worse than the one in the movie 'Parasite'. The house did not even have a bathroom, so his family had to relieve themselves in the kitchen sink. This traumatic experience gave him a clear goal to live in a good house, and after debuting, the first thing he did was gift his parents a home.
Kim Jun Su also talked about his family. He has a fraternal twin brother who recently got married and had twin boys. He showed photos of his nephews, noting that the second one looks exactly like him. Seeing his brother, he said he feels he might also have twins when he gets married. When the mothers on the show urged him to get married this year, he was visibly flustered, making everyone laugh.
Kim Jun Su also talked about his reputation for being cute ("Aegyo"). He said, "I only do it for fans because they want it. I don't do it outside." However, when the host Shin Dong Yup asked him to show it to the mothers on the set, he performed his signature "Angel Xiah" pose, charming everyone.
Now facing his 40s, he confessed, "I don't feel physical changes, but I realize my age when I see the number of younger colleagues increasing in the musical field."
Currently, Kim Jun Su is starring in the musical 'Beetlejuice', his first attempt at a comedy role.
