Chef Lim Sung Geun, who appeared on Season 2 of Netflix’s cooking reality show 'Culinary Class Wars,' has confessed to past incidents of drunk driving.

On January 18, Lim revealed on his YouTube channel, Lim Sung Geun Imzzang TV, that he had been caught driving under the influence on three separate occasions in the past. “Over the span of about 10 years, I was involved in drunk driving incidents roughly three times,” he said. “I received criminal punishment, had my license revoked, and later obtained it again.” He added, “If this were to come out later, wouldn’t it hurt a lot of people? A wrongdoing is still a wrongdoing.”

Later that same day, Lim also released a handwritten letter of apology. In it, he wrote, “Drunk driving is a mistake that cannot be justified under any circumstances.” He explained that amid growing public attention, he believed continuing his activities without addressing his past would be deceptive, which led him to come forward himself.

The latest confession drew mixed reactions from the public. Some netizens expressed support, saying, “It takes honesty to confess to something that could have been hidden,” and “It takes courage to expose your flaws when you’re at the height of popularity.” Others were more critical, commenting, “If he was caught three times, it likely wasn’t occasional,” and “Confessing now feels calculated.”

Netizens responded:

"So he drove drunk three times? That means he probably did it dozens, maybe hundreds of times, and only got caught three times. I even unsubscribed and checked the comments, and everyone was cheering him on… Is this really okay? Hundreds of people die every year because of drunk driving."

"No matter how successful you are, three DUI offenses are excessive. Wow… I just can’t believe it."

"What’s even more shocking is that someone caught drunk driving three times (and who knows how many times he wasn’t caught) is still allowed to get a driver’s license again in this country."

"The way he talks sounds exactly like someone who loves drinking. You only need to watch a few videos of fatal drunk driving accidents to understand how serious this issue is."

"He wants the fame, but alcohol could get in the way, so he made a preemptive confession?"

"He tried to ride the wave at light speed, but ended up snapping the oar."

"I’ve been driving for over 10 years and can’t even remember the last time I had a breathalyzer test. It’s hard enough to run into drunk-driving checkpoints. Getting caught three times is actually impressive."

"If he was caught three times, that pretty much means he was habitually driving drunk. Just… wow. If three times is what we know about, how many times did he actually do it?"

"It’s basically a license to kill, and it’s a miracle no one died."

"Being caught three times means he must have driven drunk at least dozens of times. I supported him and liked him during Culinary Class Wars, but no matter how you spin this, it’s impossible to understand from a common-sense perspective."

"It feels like he came clean and apologized in advance just to avoid a bigger headache later."
"Three times caught means there were more times he hid. I supported Imzzang, but this is disappointing."
"If it were once, I could see it as a mistake. But three times? That’s shocking. Celebrities get canceled over a single incident. Three is on another level."
"And being caught three times also means that after the first time, there was no real remorse."
"Repetition is the real problem. If drunk driving keeps happening, people shouldn’t be allowed to reapply for a license at all."

"If he got caught three times, it means he regularly drove after drinking..."
"It's so obvious why he confessed. He confessed after reporters began covering his story."
"He only confessed to get rid of guilt."

"At least he came clean on his own. I am very disappointed, though."

"DUI is severe..."

"He knew he would be canceled so badly if people found out, so he came clean himself. lol."
