Actress Hwang Jung Eum officially parted ways with her former agency, Y·ONE Entertainment, amid renewed controversy surrounding her one-person management company.
On the afternoon of January 8, Y·ONE Entertainment released an official statement confirming that it had notified Hwang Jung Eum of the termination of her exclusive contract on November 27, 2025. The agency stated that the notice was accepted, and the exclusive contract between both parties has already concluded.
The agency emphasized that, following the contract’s termination, it bears no involvement or responsibility for the actress’s current or future activities, personal matters, or any related issues. Y·ONE Entertainment also made clear that it will not issue any further statements or responses regarding the matter.
The announcement comes as controversy continues over Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, a family-run corporation fully owned by Hwang Jung Eum. As of January 8, the company was reported to remain unregistered as a public entertainment management business, raising questions within the industry.
Hwang Jung Eum has previously faced legal issues related to financial misconduct. In 2022, she was accused of receiving 700 million KRW (about 482,000 USD) as an advance from company funds under the pretext of temporary borrowing, which she allegedly invested in cryptocurrency. Prosecutors further alleged that by December of that year, she had embezzled approximately 4.34 billion KRW (about 3.01 million USD) in total company funds.
At the time, Hwang Jung Eum acknowledged the indictment, and the court sentenced her to two years in prison with a four-year suspended sentence, meaning she will not serve jail time as long as she is not convicted of another crime during the four-year suspension period.
