The film 'Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight,' based on a Japanese bestselling novel of the same title, has become a major box office success in South Korea, prompting the original author to personally share a message of gratitude.
The youth romance follows Seo Yoon (played by Shin Si Ah), a female lead who loses her memory every day, and Jae Won (played by Choo Young Woo), the male protagonist who fills her memories anew each day. The film’s tender portrayal of love, loss, and youth has resonated deeply with audiences.
Adapted from the bestselling novel by Ichijo Misaki, the original book sold 550,000 copies in Korea and over 1.3 million copies worldwide. In Korean theaters, the film surpassed 800,000 admissions and set a new record as the fastest movie of 2026 to reach its break-even point.

Commenting on the Korean remake, Ichijo Misaki praised it highly, saying, “The Korean film is the ideal movie I had envisioned.”
The author added, “Through writing the original novel, I feel proud that both the film and the book were able to reach so many people in Korea.” She continued, “I sincerely hope that this film reaches even more viewers,” expressing her affection and appreciation for Korean audiences.
Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight is currently screening in theaters nationwide.
Full Message from Author Ichijo Misaki
"Dear Korean audiences,
Happy New Year.
I am Ichijo Misaki, the author of Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight.
From Christmas through the New Year, I have been hearing the wonderful news that this film has been performing so well in Korea, and it has filled me with immense joy. This film is, to me, the ideal cinematic work.
It contains mutual affection, wounds, love, and an unforgettable past.
By the end of the film, I found myself simply watching where those feelings of love—once seemingly vanished, leaving the body unable to move—might go.
Jae Won (Toru), portrayed by Choo Young Woo, and Seo Yoon (Maori), portrayed by Shin Si Ah, like a landscape one never tires of watching, their performances radiate a brightness unique to them, along with fleeting tenderness and beauty. I truly hope many people experience this on the big screen.
Through writing the original novel, I feel proud to have been able to connect with so many people in Korea through both the film and the book. I sincerely hope that this movie reaches as many viewers as possible."
