Cha Eun Woo has appointed the law firm Shin & Kim (Sejong) and begun a formal legal explanation process in response to a tax assessment of approximately USD 15 million issued by the National Tax Service.
According to reports, the Investigation Division 4 of the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intensive tax audit targeting Cha Eun Woo and subsequently notified him of additional taxes totaling around USD 15 million, including income tax.
At the center of the dispute is a business structure involving a corporation established by Cha Eun Woo’s mother and his agency Fantagio, which entered into a contract for “entertainment activity support services.” The National Tax Service reportedly determined that the corporation functioned as a paper company with no substantive services provided, concluding that personal income had been distributed through the corporation in order to reduce the applicable tax rate.
In response, Cha Eun Woo’s side has filed a pre-assessment review request, formally contesting the tax authority’s decision. Fantagio stated, “We plan to actively provide explanations through lawful procedures regarding issues related to the interpretation and application of tax law,” adding, “We will cooperate sincerely so that the process can be concluded as swiftly as possible.”
