It was belatedly revealed that individuals who posted malicious comments and spread false information about singer Zico have received legal punishment.
On December 29 KST, his agency KOZ Entertainment released an official statement through its channels, updating the public on the status of its legal actions to protect the artist’s rights.
Through the announcement, the agency made it clear that it has taken strong legal measures against malicious rumors that spread online despite having no connection whatsoever to Zico.
KOZ Entertainment stated, “In relation to an incident that was clearly proven to have no connection to the artist, the company filed criminal complaints in the first half of this year against those who maliciously spread rumors and false information. As a result of the investigation, the perpetrators received dispositions including referral as juvenile protection cases and fines.”
The agency added that it continues to closely monitor the situation. “We fully recognize the seriousness of the ongoing spread of insults and false information targeting the artist, and we are actively responding in cooperation with a law firm to recover damages and prevent recurrence,” the statement read.
The agency emphasized that commonly used online expressions are not exempt from legal action. “Derogatory nicknames, initials, or abbreviated expressions used to insult the artist or spread false information are all included as targets of legal complaints,” it warned.
Finally, KOZ Entertainment drew a firm line regarding leniency or settlements. “Any acts that insult the artist or spread false information constitute illegal acts punishable under criminal law, and the company once again makes clear that it is taking all possible legal measures without any consideration for settlement or leniency,” the agency stressed.
