Broadcaster Lee Kyung Kyu has revealed that he once underwent a heart stent procedure, opening up about the health scare he experienced while actively appearing on television.
On the 25th, Lee shared a video titled “Lee Kyung Kyu shocked by explosive growth of a son from 15 years ago (now attending Seoul National University)” on his YouTube channel “God Kyung Kyu.” In the video, he reunited with Jung Ji Woong, the son of actor Jung Eun Pyo, who previously appeared with him on SBS’s popular family variety show 'Star Junior Show: Bunggeoppang'.
Noticing Ji Woong’s slimmer appearance, Lee commented, “You lost a lot of weight.” Ji Woong explained, “I lost about 40 to 50 kilograms during my military service. I weighed around 110 to 120 kilograms when I entered college, but now I’m about 70 kilograms.” He added that frequent running with his company commander sparked an interest that continued even after his discharge.
During the conversation, Lee surprised viewers by revealing that he underwent a heart stent procedure in 2013, when 'Bunggeoppang' was at the height of its popularity. “While filming, my heart became blocked,” Lee recalled. “After the recording ended, I went straight to the hospital and had a stent procedure.”
He added that he chose to complete filming before receiving treatment. “I didn’t hand the recording over to anyone else. I finished everything first and then had the procedure,” he said. Reflecting on the stress he experienced at the time, Lee joked, “The kids made me sick. Some of them caused a lot of trouble.” He quickly added with a laugh, “But Ji Woong never did. When he cried, the ratings went up.”
Lee Kyung Kyu’s candid confession highlighted both the physical strain he endured during his busy broadcasting career and his trademark humor, even when recalling a serious health episode.
