Six years have passed since Goo Hara’s passing.
On November 24, 2019, Goo Hara was found dead at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, at age 28. The day before, she had posted “Good night” on her public SNS and “I’m scared” on a private account, messages that left many heartbroken.
Even after her death, her family continued to face hardship. During memorial preparations, her brother Goo Ho In discovered that Hara’s 31 kg personal safe had been stolen from her home. The thief avoided valuable items, entered just hours after the family left, covered the CCTV cameras with leaves, and took only the safe.
Goo Ho In insisted it was not a simple burglary, saying he was shocked someone would steal from the home of the deceased. Fortunately, Hara’s mobile phones had already been secured. He revealed that the safe had contained six phones and that one locked iPhone is still being held by specialists.
SBS’s ‘Unanswered Questions’ later used CCTV enhancement and AI reconstruction to reveal the suspect as a man in his late 20s to early 30s, around the upper-170 cm range, wearing glasses and an earring.
Goo Hara debuted with KARA in 2008 and became loved through hits like “Pretty Girl,” “Honey,” and “Mister,” the latter making the group a global sensation.
Although years have passed, fans and members continue to remember her. KARA’s 15th-anniversary music video ‘Move Again’ paid tribute to her absence, and an unreleased song featuring her voice, “Hello,” was released in 2023.
The “Goo Hara Act,” inspired by her brother’s petition, passed in 2023. It prevents parents who neglected their children from claiming inheritance after the child’s death. The law will take effect in January 2026 and can apply retroactively to recent cases.
