NCSOFT’s recently released MMORPG 'AION2,' launched on November 19, has come under scrutiny after users noticed preset characters resembling JYP Entertainment idols Felix from Stray Kids and Sullyoon from NMIXX.

Preset characters are default appearances provided by game developers, which players can further customize when creating their avatars. In 'AION2,' several users pointed out that certain male and female preset characters bear a striking resemblance to Felix and Sullyoon, sparking heated discussions online. Some fans even commented that Felix’s in-game counterpart is “practically identical” to the idol.

The controversy is amplified by the fact that 'AION2' is rated 19+, leading some fans to express discomfort over the appearance of characters resembling minors in a game intended for adults.
Legal experts have weighed in on the matter. Attorney Noh Jong Eon of Law Firm Jonjae stated, “From the perspective of a third party, these characters can be easily associated with the celebrities. If the game company used their likeness for commercial purposes without permission, it could constitute a violation of the Right of Publicity under the Unfair Competition Prevention Act.” He added, “When the likeness of stars is used indiscriminately in an adult-rated game without consent, it could potentially damage the proud reputation of K-pop culture, which has been built through the artists’ efforts.”
JYP Entertainment is reportedly reviewing the situation. NCSOFT, meanwhile, acknowledged the concerns, stating, “Although it was not intentional, we are aware of the feedback regarding specific presets and will take appropriate measures.”
