Actress Kim Yoo Jung, now in her 23rd year since debut, opened up about her sense of responsibility as a leading actress.
On November 16 KST, a video titled "Yoo Jung’s broadcasts that we all raised (?) together since she was 4, and the stories behind it" was posted on the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jaehyung'.
Kim Yoo Jung recently transformed her image by taking on the role of sociopath Baek Ah Jin in TVING's original series 'Dear X'.
Kim Yoo Jung said, "Because of the character, I didn’t interact much with the actors on set. I didn’t realize it, but people told me, 'As soon as filming ended, you became nice again. Your eyes changed and your expressions came back.' During filming, maybe it was on purpose, but people didn’t really talk to me."
Then, host Jung Jae Hyung asked, "Was it because they were scared? Since you're such a senior to them, don’t they all call you senior?"
Kim Yoo Jung responded, "Not everyone. Some people speak to me very comfortably."
Jung Jae Hyung then joked, "OK, they can call you 'Yoo Jung-ah,' but you'd still like to be treated as a senior?"
Kim Yoo Jung laughed and replied, "Maybe basic manners, at least."
She continued, "But because of that, sometimes it's hard to get close to people easily. So, I put in a lot of effort. During filming, I always make a lot of calls. Every one or two weeks, I call everyone. I ask if they're doing well, how their condition is, and whether they had any trouble while shooting their scenes. I think it's important to communicate."
Jung Jae Hyung asked, "Doesn't that make you sound like a homeroom teacher?"
Kim Yoo Jung laughed, "Maybe that's why they don't want to talk to me?" Jung Jae Hyung continued, "You're doing everything a lead actor is supposed to do."
To this, Kim Yoo Jung responded, "I try to do that a lot. I try to make sure the mood doesn’t go bad and that we all finish well together," revealing her strong sense of responsibility as the lead.
Jung Jae Hyung added, "That's what being the lead is. It's not 'I'm the lead! Roll out the red carpet~' but being the person who checks on everyone more than the director and keeps the harmony together."
In the comments section, netizens and fans also shared that Kim Yoo Jung "personally spoke to the production staff so that the underage actors could work with child psychology counselors and receive proper psychological support during filming."
Meanwhile, Kim Yoo Jung debuted at the age of 4 in 2003 as a child advertisement model and has since grown into an established actress with more than 20 years of experience. She has appeared in numerous works, including 'The Moon Embracing the Sun', 'Love in the Moonlight', and 'Grudge: The Revolt of Gumiho.'
