Comedian Jo Se Ho revealed that he is currently receiving psychiatric care.
On the November 26 episode of the tvN variety program 'You Quiz on the Block,' Jo Se Ho shared this while speaking with psychiatrist Lee Kyung Joon.
“I’m going to a psychiatric clinic. I’m also taking medication,” Jo Se Ho said.
He went on to explain, “At first, I was afraid to visit a psychiatrist. Work brings a lot of different challenges, but over time, I started thinking, ‘Maybe going to the hospital will help. Maybe I’ll be able to live more healthily.’”
Dr. Lee Kyung Joon, who runs a psychiatric clinic in Pangyo, shared insights from his practice. “I see about 50 to 60 patients a day. The most direct concern among office workers is anxiety. Even in situations where there’s no objective reason to feel anxious, personal factors or accumulated small stressors can push someone’s anxiety to a pathological level. That can even trigger physical reactions. At that point, it becomes difficult for the individual to understand why they’re anxious or to make clear judgments,” he explained.
He added, “Middle managers visit most frequently. Unlike newcomers, they can’t easily change their environment. They have to perform, manage their teams, and deal with constant pressure. People like ‘Manager Kim’ from the drama—there are many who come to the clinic just like that.”
Dr. Lee also noted that people in this age group tend to experience multiple forms of loss. “Aside from changes at work, people in their 50s also go through menopause. There’s a sense of declining health as well. Those feelings of loss build up and come crashing down all at once.”
He further remarked that such patients often struggle to speak openly during consultations. “Many have high levels of depression but insist they’re not depressed. They feel that admitting to depression is the same as admitting failure. They downplay their suffering and talk about it as if it’s much less severe than it is,” he said.
