In the first court hearing for a high-profile sexual assault case, a broadcaster known as BJ A and her boyfriend, B, admitted to all charges, including drugging and raping a woman at a pension and recording the incident.
The case was heard on November 18 at the Suwon District Court, 13th Criminal Division (B), where BJ A and B were charged under the Special Act on Sexual Violence Crimes for rape and filming sexual acts using a camera. Both defendants, currently in custody, acknowledged the prosecution’s allegations.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred on August 27 at a pension in Jebudo, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The pair allegedly gave the victim, C, alcohol mixed with sleeping pills, rendering her unconscious before sexually assaulting her. The act was reportedly filmed, adding further charges. The case was formally brought to court on September 22 when the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office’s Women and Children Crime Investigation Division filed the detention and prosecution of the two.
Court records reveal that the defendants have repeatedly submitted letters of remorse and various pledges, appealing for leniency. BJ A submitted 17 letters of apology between October 21 and November 18, along with additional documents including compliance pledges, recidivism prevention pledges, volunteer plans, and personal life plans. B also expressed remorse through letters and book reports submitted during October and November.
The court continued the proceedings on November 18 and set the next hearing for December 8.
