American media outlets report that 'Squid Game: America' will begin filming in 2026

According to multiple American media reports, 'Squid Game: America' is scheduled to begin filming in February of next year.

Previously, inside rumors claimed that an American spin-off to director Hwang Dong Hyuk's hit Netflix series was in the works, with director renowned Hollywood David Fincher ('Fight Club', 1999; 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button', 2008) leading the series. Although director Hwang Dong Hyuk initially denied any such talks, according to 'Radio Times' and other sources this week, 'Squid Game: America' has now officially been listed on the 'Film and Television Industry Alliance' website. 

The production is seemingly set to begin in Los Angeles on February 26, 2026, with Hwang Dong Hyuk, David Fincher, Dennis Kelly, and Cate Blanchett, who made a cameo appearance as a new "front man" at the end of 'Squid Game' season 3.

If filming begins in February of 2026, it's projected that the series itself will be released some time in 2028, possibly around Christmas. 

Meanwhile, Netflix has yet to release any statements on the reports.
