Park Bo Gum will narrate a documentary about poet Yun Dong Ju.
MBC Radio announced on October 27 that "Park Bo Gum will narrate the special documentary 'With a Heart That Sings the Stars' celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korea-Japan diplomatic relations."
The documentary centers on the unveiling ceremony of a monument in Ikkyo University in Japan, Yun Dong Ju’s alma mater, and tells the stories of people from both Korea and Japan who remember him. Yun Dong Ju was a Korean poet, known for his lyric poetry and poems dedicated to the Korean independence movement against the Empire of Japan.
On October 11, Rikkyo University erected a monument inscribed with Yun’s poems and his portrait. This marks the first time a memorial dedicated to the poet has been established in Tokyo.
'With a Heart That Sings to the Stars' goes beyond simply honoring Yun Dong Ju. It interweaves time and space around themes such as “love,” “shame,” and “handshake.”
The program also features interviews with literary figures, including Professor Kim Eung Gyo of Sookmyung Women’s University—known for his research on Yun Dong Ju—film director Lee Joon Ik, who directed 'Dongju,' and novelist Gong Ji Young.
It further explores the concept of “shame” in modern society through interviews with Park Kyung Seok, head of the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, and Lee Na Young, chairperson of the Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan.
Park Bo Gum, known for his deep affection for Yun Dong Ju, lends his warm voice to the narration, as if writing a heartfelt letter to the poet. The production team explained, “The documentary reflects on ‘shame’ through the shared ‘love’ for Yun Dong Ju between Korea and Japan, and moves toward the future through a ‘handshake.’” They added, “Through these stories, the documentary discovers hope and reaffirms that the strength to move forward lies in solidarity and harmony.”
Meanwhile, 'With a Heart That Sings to the Stars' will air on MBC Radio Standard FM (95.9 MHz in the Seoul area) on November 1 at 8:05 PM.
