Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative has explained why the actor’s handwritten letters and his diary logs were released.
On October 3, attorney Go Sang Rok of the Law Firm Pil wrote on his channel, “The 150 letters the actor wrote throughout his military service to his then-girlfriend are filled with gratitude, apologies, and affection for her. They contain detailed accounts of him eagerly awaiting small dates during his leave.”
Regarding the decision to make the letters public, attorney Go emphasized, “They serve as strong evidence that the actor’s thoughts were completely focused on his girlfriend at the time, leaving no room for any other feelings or relationships.”
He also addressed the phrase “I miss you” that appeared in letters sent to the late Kim Sae Ron, saying, “It’s a common expression soldiers might use toward acquaintances outside the military. It does not reveal romantic interest, let alone suggest a relationship. If you read the letters from start to finish, they are simply the kind of writing where a soldier shares stories of military life with a civilian acquaintance and ends with something like, ‘Let’s meet up when I’m on leave.’”
Attorney Go further clarified that Kim Sae Ron’s visit to Kim Soo Hyun’s home took place only once during his leave, and that, “The house belonged to the actor, but it was his brother—who is also the agency’s CEO and family—who lived there. As shown by the letters written inside the military base at the time, there was no mention of the visit. It was not planned, but a natural visit that happened because schedules matched. Of course, his brother, who lived in the house, was also present.”
Finally, attorney Go stressed, “The relationship between the actor and the late Kim Sae Ron was nothing more than ordinary interactions between fellow celebrities.”
Earlier this year, Kim Soo Hyun faced allegations that he had dated Kim Sae Ron when she was still a minor. Initially, he completely denied the rumors, but later admitted to having dated her only after she became an adult. As the controversy persisted, he filed a 12 billion KRW (8.5 million USD) damages lawsuit against the bereaved family and a YouTuber who spread the claims.
