In celebration of the 579th Hangeul Day, actor Kim Nam Gil and Seo Kyung Duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, announced on the 9th that they donated educational supplies to the Korean School of Monterrey in Mexico.
This marks their fourth donation, following previous contributions to the Remnant Korean School in New York, the Namsadang Cultural Institute in Vancouver, Canada, and the Hangeul Learning Center in Budapest, Hungary.
The two have been leading a Hangeul Globalization Campaign, donating educational materials to weekend schools around the world that are dedicated to teaching the Korean language, as well as to study groups formed by foreigners eager to learn Korean.
Seo Kyung Duk, who planned the initiative, said, “We recently donated a variety of educational items including a smart TV, laptop, and stationery to the Korean School of Monterrey in Mexico.”
He added, “With K-pop and K-dramas gaining immense popularity worldwide, more foreigners and overseas Koreans are becoming interested in learning Hangeul and the Korean language. We hope our support can contribute, even in a small way, to their education.” Kim Nam Gil, who sponsored the project, said, “We will continue to seek out and support organizations around the world that are dedicated to promoting Korean language education.”
Meanwhile, Kim and Seo also appeared together in a promotional video for the '2025 Hangeul Hanmadang,' a global cultural festival that celebrates the excellence and beauty of Hangeul.
