Singer Jay Park was reportedly removed from the guest list for a new product launch event by a luxury brand for which he serves as an ambassador.
Jay Park was originally scheduled to attend the brand’s event on October 23 in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. However, on October 22 — just one day before the event — the event agency informed media outlets that “due to program adjustments, the attending celebrity has been changed to Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.”
This sudden change has fueled speculation that the brand’s decision may have been influenced by Jay Park’s recent controversy. On October 15, he faced backlash after performing at W Korea’s breast cancer awareness campaign event.
During the charity event, Jay Park performed his hit song ‘Mommae,’ which includes lyrics referencing female body parts such as “twin sisters hanging from your chest.” Many criticized the choice as inappropriate for an event promoting women’s health and cancer awareness.
Amid the backlash, Jay Park issued an apology via Instagram, stating, “I performed as usual, thinking it was for the people gathered there with good intentions and hearts. I sincerely apologize if any cancer patients or attendees felt uncomfortable or offended by my performance.” However, public criticism has continued.
In response to speculation, a representative from the event agency told TV Daily, “Since it’s a beauty-related event, we needed to adjust the lineup to better feature the new makeup products. The change was made for brand presentation purposes, not because of any controversy.”
They added, “Although replacing a celebrity a day before an event is uncommon, such decisions can occur when global brands aren’t fully familiar with local circumstances. Taeyeon isn’t an official ambassador, but as someone who enjoys makeup and has positively mentioned the brand’s products on her personal YouTube channel, we felt it was a great opportunity to invite her.”
