Former Brown Eyed Soul member Sung Hoon has claimed that his departure from the group was not his own decision, alleging internal conflicts with fellow member Naul and the agency Long Play Music.
On October 7, 2025 (KST), Sung Hoon posted a lengthy statement on Instagram, revealing that his exit two years ago was forced rather than voluntary.
He explained that he had been waiting for the group’s new album recording in 2022 but later discovered online that Naul had already recovered his voice and was preparing a solo project. According to Sung Hoon, this came as a shock after years of patience and dedication.
Sung Hoon also claimed that the agency prohibited him from running his YouTube channel, saying he was told to “kneel down and beg Naul if you want to continue.” In Korean culture, kneeling is a sign of deep apology or humiliation, suggesting that Sung Hoon felt unfairly pressured and humiliated by the situation.
He added that the company’s CEO later brought him a termination contract and urged him to sign it on the spot, which he eventually did under the condition that neither side would engage in public disputes.
According to the lengthy post he shared on Instagram, Sung Hoon expressed his regret over how things unfolded, writing, “It wasn’t a decision I made. I truly wanted to stay and protect the group until the very end, but things didn’t go the way I hoped. I just want people to know that I never wanted to leave.”
Brown Eyed Soul is a highly respected South Korean R&B vocal group known for their rich harmonies and soulful music. The group debuted in 2003 and consists of Naul, Jungyup, Youngjun, and formerly Sung Hoon. They are widely praised for their powerful live performances and have released numerous hit songs over the past two decades.
After Sung Hoon’s departure, Long Play Music stated in March 2023 that all members and staff “sincerely wish him success and express deep gratitude for his contributions.”
The remaining three members—Naul, Jungyup, and Youngjun—continued as a trio and released their fifth album ‘Soul Tricycle’ in September 2024.
As of now, neither Naul nor Long Play Music has responded to Sung Hoon’s latest claims, and fans are awaiting further clarification on the matter.
