A woman in her 40s, who worked as an announcer, has been arrested for assaulting her teenage daughter, leading to her death.
According to JTBC’s 'Case Chief' broadcast on October 1, police arrested and detained the woman, referred to as 'A,' on charges of fatal child abuse and abandonment after she allegedly beat her teenage daughter, 'B,' to death.
The incident occurred on September 22 around 4:30 PM, when 'B' was brought to the emergency room of a hospital in Namhae County, South Gyeongsang Province, in 'A’s car. 'A' reportedly told doctors, “When I went to my car after work, I found my daughter unconscious, so I brought her to the hospital.” However, the medical staff became suspicious of foul play after discovering multiple bruises and injuries across B’s body that appeared to be caused by blunt force, and they reported it to the police.
Hospital officials stated that 'B' had no pulse or respiration upon arrival. They added, “'A' seemed emotionally unstable and asked us why we were saying her daughter was dead when she had been alive,” explaining that 'A' continued to aggressively argue with them and the attending doctor.
Based on the extent of the injuries, police identified 'A' as the prime suspect and launched a full investigation. It was later revealed that 'A' was a singer and a local broadcast announcer in Jinju, South Gyeongsang, shocking the public.
On the day before the incident, September 21, 'A' and 'B' were reportedly in Namhae to attend a fire drill event hosted by the Namhae Fire Department, where 'A' participated as a volunteer. CCTV footage from the venue only showed 'A' pacing around throughout the night, with no sighting of her daughter. After the allegations surfaced, 'A' was dismissed from her role as a public relations ambassador.
Police stated that they are continuing to investigate 'A' to determine the full circumstances of the case.
