Zhang Hao of ZEROBASEONE opened up about his inner thoughts on staying grounded and the pressures of idol life, even two years into his career.
On September 7th KST, the TEO YouTube channel uploaded a new video titled “[Uncut] Carefully revealing Zhang Hao’s inner thoughts | Jangdobaribari EP.12”. The video featured Zhang Hao as a guest, chatting with host Jang Do Yeon in a candid one-on-one talk.
When asked by Jang Do Yeon, “Is there any variety show you’d like to try?”, Zhang Hao replied, “I want to do a survival show again. I want to get back to my roots—that sense of urgency I felt back then.”
Surprised, Jang Do Yeon responded, “You’ve only been debuted for two years and you’re already trying to ‘return to your roots’?”
To that, Zhang Hao explained, “Even if that mindset fades just a little, I feel a sense of crisis. And now that ‘Boys Planet Season 2’ is coming, to be honest, I feel really anxious.”
When asked if there was ever a time in the past two years when he felt secure, he answered, “Never. I’ve always felt on edge. The idol industry moves so fast. I constantly think about how to keep fans’ hearts for the long run. I study it a lot.”
Jang Do Yeon then pointed out, “But you did really well during your own survival show, right? Even then, did you feel anxious?”
Zhang Hao responded, “Yes. But I still want to do it again because I know I can do well. I’m confident.”
When she asked if he felt a kind of dopamine rush from survival formats, he laughed and said, “Totally. It’s all about competition and winning!” prompting her to remark, “You must have a competitive streak in you.”
Meanwhile, Zhang Hao recently made a comeback with ZEROBASEONE’s first full-length album ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’. In addition to group promotions, he is also set to make a special appearance in the MBC drama ‘To the Moon’, marking his acting debut.
