Choi Siwon, a member of Super Junior and actor, briefly posted a tribute to American conservative political activist Charlie Kirk on Instagram before deleting it.
On September 11, Choi shared an Instagram story honoring Kirk, featuring images of Kirk with his family. The post included the message, “REST IN PEACE CHARLIE KIRK” alongside a cross symbol.
Charlie Kirk was the founder and president of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization in the United States that advocates for Christian values and right-leaning political ideals. He was known for his opposition to gun control, having previously stated that “guns save lives” and that deaths from gun accidents are a “reasonable cost.”
Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 during a debate at Utah Valley University in Utah. He had recently visited South Korea to attend conservative Christian events on September 5 and 6.
Choi Siwon is known to be a practicing Christian, which contextualizes his initial tribute to Kirk. The reason for Choi’s deletion of the post has not been disclosed.
