Red Velvet’s Wendy reveals why she didn’t cover "Golden" from 'K-pop Demon Hunters'
Red Velvet’s Wendy is set to appear on the upcoming episode of MBC’s variety show 'Where is My Home', airing on September 4 KST, where she will address why she didn’t cover “Golden”, the main OST of the global hit animated film 'K-pop Demon Hunters'.
Joining singer Lee Suk Hoon and comedian Yang Se Hyung, Wendy explores Seoul’s most iconic “K-pop districts” and real estate zones surrounding major entertainment agency headquarters. The special “K-pop Agency Zone” episode highlights how agency buildings have become tourism hotspots thanks to the global rise of K-pop and K-pop Demon Hunters’ massive success.
In the studio, model and MC Joo Woo Jae, a self-proclaimed longtime fan of Red Velvet, gushes over Wendy, revealing he has all their CDs and listens to every track.
During the episode, Wendy shares her honest reason for not covering "Golden", saying,
“I practiced the song at home, but the pitch was so high, I almost passed out. I didn’t want to do it unless I could deliver a perfect live version, so I didn’t record a video.”
Her candid confession adds a personal layer to her perfectionist approach to music.
Wendy, now in her 11th year since debut, also looks back on her trainee days, saying,
“I never want to go back. I joined SM through a global audition by chance, but I had to catch up with other trainees, which was so tough.”
Lee Suk Hoon reflects on his own early days, recalling that he auditioned directly in front of his agency’s CEO, sang with his raw voice, and lost over 35kg in two months before debuting.
“I went from 100kg to 64kg. I lost about 15kg per month,” he said, surprising the cast.
Together, the trio of “K-pop Field Hunters” visit Seongsu-dong in Seongdong-gu, a district famous for housing SM Entertainment near Seoul Forest Station. Wendy reminisces,
“I used to take the subway to the office during my trainee days. As long as I wore a cap and kept my head down, no one recognized me.”
The episode will air at 10 PM KST on September 4.
