The film ‘No Other Choice’ has won the International People’s Choice Award at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
‘No Other Choice’ tells the story of Man Soo (played by Lee Byung Hun), a company employee who feels he has achieved everything in life until he is suddenly laid off. In order to protect his wife, two children, and the home he worked so hard to buy, he prepares for his own war to secure re-employment, leading to a gripping survival drama. The film received the International People’s Choice Award at TIFF, which closed on September 14.

This newly established award is given to the most popular international film—excluding Canadian and American works—based on audience votes. As the first-ever recipient of the award, ‘No Other Choice’ holds special significance, proving its global resonance and ability to connect with audiences through a universally relatable survival story.
Director Park Chan Wook expressed his gratitude, saying, “I wasn’t surprised by the news because I had already witnessed the passionate reactions of the audience during the official screening. At every moment, they responded exactly as we hoped. The Toronto audience was truly the best in the world. I sincerely thank all the staff and volunteers who made it possible.”
With this recognition on the international stage, ‘No Other Choice’ is set to continue drawing attention worldwide and is expected to make a strong impact at the box office this fall.
