Singer and musical actor Lee Hongki of FTISLAND is set to return to the stage in the Korean premiere of the musical 'Sugar'. On September 23 KST, FNC Entertainment announced, “Hongki has been cast in the upcoming musical Sugar. He will play the role of Joe, a saxophonist.”
The musical Sugar is based on the 1959 classic film Some Like It Hot. The story follows two jazz musicians who witness a murder and disguise themselves as women to join an all-female band in order to escape the mob.
Hongki will take on the role of Josephine (Joe), who cross-dresses to stay alive and evade the gangsters. His portrayal is expected to capture the complexity and duality of the character through both comedic and emotional layers.
Known for his powerful vocals and growing acting range, Hongki has already proven his talent in a variety of musicals, including 'The Days', 'I Loved You', 'Return: The Promise of the Day', 'Jack the Ripper', and 'Mata Hari'.
FNC stated, “With Sugar, Hongki will showcase his ever-expanding acting spectrum and solid vocal performance, captivating the hearts of theatergoers.”
Adding to the anticipation, MAMAMOO’s Solar has also been cast in the role of Sugar, raising expectations for the chemistry between two idol-turned-musical-actors.
Sugar will run from December 12, 2025, to February 22, 2026, at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul.
