YOUNITE's Eunho was the victim of a sexual harassment incident involving a fan while attending an event in Brazil. The incident, which was captured on video and spread quickly on social media, has prompted strong responses from the event organizers and the group's agency.
On August 17th (local time), YOUNITE performed at the '18th Korean Culture Day' in São Paulo. As the members were leaving the venue, a woman in the crowd lunged at Eunho, grabbing his neck and forcibly trying to kiss him. Security personnel quickly intervened to stop the fan, but a visibly shocked Eunho was hurried away from the scene.
The event's organizing committee released an official statement condemning the act. "We deeply regret the incident of sexual harassment in which a fan attempted to forcibly kiss an artist," they stated. "We want to emphasize that sexual harassment of any kind is unacceptable. Actions that violate personal dignity, respect, and safety will not be tolerated."
YOUNITE's agency, Brand New Music, also issued a notice addressing the event. "There was a recent safety incident where an artist's well-being was threatened by excessive access from some fans after a performance," the agency said. "This can pose a great risk not only to the artist but also to the safety of all fans at the scene. For the safety of the artists and fans, we ask that you maintain a safe distance during schedules." The agency also asked fans to refrain from excessive criticism of the individual involved.
Following the incident, Eunho himself took to the fan communication platform 'Fromm' to reassure fans. "I was surprised. At first, I thought she was a staff member," he wrote. "But I dodged it with my super reflexes. I'm okay."
