Viewers expressed disappointment with the quality of questions on 'You Quiz on the Block.'
On the August 20 broadcast of tvN's variety show 'You Quiz on the Block,' actress Kim Tae Hee made her first talk show appearance in 15 years, sharing a wide range of stories.
Her appearance on the popular talk show was in light of the release of the Amazon Prime Video original series 'Butterfly.' However, instead of focusing on Kim Tae Hee's acting or her new project, much of the discussion revolved around other topics, leading some netizens to voice criticism.
Kim Tae Hee briefly updated fans on her recent activities and explained, "Since my U.S. drama is releasing, I went to New York for promotions." She briefly talked about the show's plot and how she received the casting offer. Then, the conversation quickly shifted to her husband, Rain, and her two daughters.
Kim Tae Hee, who married Rain in 2017 and welcomed their first daughter the same year and their second in 2019, explained, “I focused on housework and childcare,” opening up about her five-year hiatus and the challenges of raising two daughters. She added that caring for her children renewed her passion for acting, but the show did not delve into her acting philosophy.
Having first gained recognition in the 2003 SBS drama 'Stairway to Heaven,' Kim Tae Hee went on to star in 'Forbidden Love,' 'Love Story in Harvard,' and more, remaining in the spotlight. In recent years, she impressed viewers with powerful performances in 'Hi Bye, Mama!' and 'Lies Hidden in My Garden.'
However, once again, the conversation shifted to her looks. Her past drama 'IRIS' was only mentioned in the context of her beauty. Kim Tae Hee was asked about the time she felt she looked her best. She candidly shared, "I liked my looks the most when I was thirty. From now on, there will gradually be more things I don't like about my looks. I mean, I am getting older, and that's something I have no choice but to accept. I just hope people will see the wrinkles that come from smiling as a positive and beautiful thing."
After the episode aired, netizens criticized the lack of questions about her acting philosophy and her new project. They commented, "Do they not know what to ask besides her looks and education?" "The Seoul National University story is decades old," "It felt like they talked more about Rain," and "Please raise the quality of the questions." Others, however, defended the show, saying, "For people who don’t know her well, this is new information," and "This might actually promote her project better."
