Online bookstore and ticketing platform Yes24 has gone down again, just two months after a service-wide shutdown caused by a hacking incident.
On August 11, Yes24 announced via its official social media channels that it had been hit by a ransomware attack, apologizing for the resulting service disruption. “At around 4:30 a.m. today, we were subjected to an external ransomware attack, resulting in service inaccessibility,” the company stated. “As a precaution, we have urgently shut down our systems to prevent further damage and are conducting security inspections and implementing defense measures. We are working to restore services quickly using backup data.”
Yes24 also experienced a ransomware-related outage in June, which brought down its website, app, and other core services. At the time, the company initially claimed the issue was due to routine system maintenance, but later admitted it had suffered a server failure caused by a ransomware attack.
In response to that incident, Yes24 had pledged to completely re-examine its security framework. The company announced plans to bring in an external security advisory team, increase its security budget, and strengthen the platform’s reliability and resilience from system design to overall operations.
However, with a similar problem surfacing just two months later, critics say the company’s promises have proved hollow. Yes24 is now expected to face accountability for what many see as inadequate response and poor system management.
The entertainment industry is also likely to be affected. In the first incident in June, artists such as Park Bo Gum, B.I, and ENHYPEN had to postpone fan club pre-sales, ticket openings, and fan sign-up events.
The second disruption comes on a significant day: August 11 marks the start of general ticket sales for DAY6’s 10th anniversary tour “DAY6 10th Anniversary Tour ” via Yes24. The general sale is scheduled to open at 8 p.m., following the fan club pre-sale held on August 8 for 5th generation My Day members.
Tickets purchased through Yes24 are set to begin shipping today.
