Super Junior member Shindong shared his candid thoughts on idol dating.
On August 11, YouTube channel JM posted a video titled “We Asked Shindong Questions We Were Curious About.”
In the video, creator JM asked, “Idols must have a lot of opportunities to meet the opposite sex, right?” Shindong replied, “Whether you have opportunities or not, those who want to date will, and those who can’t, won’t. People who know how to take care of their own plate will always do well. I think it depends on your own effort. If I really wanted to date and have a girlfriend, I’d ask for numbers at broadcasting stations or when I meet fellow celebrities. But if I feel it’s not really my thing, I don’t bother taking action.”

He added, “From what I’ve seen, people who are confident exchange contact information and end up dating. I don’t think I have a single friend who’s a lifelong single - most of them are confident. Maybe it’s because they’re celebrities that they have that confidence.”
Shindong also spoke honestly about receiving online messages from female fans. He shared, “Of course, I get a lot of messages, but I don’t really check them thoroughly. These days, online appearances and real-life personalities can be different, so I’m cautious. Also, because I’m a celebrity, it’s hard to reply easily. I might send a message first, but replying to incoming ones is difficult.”
He also shared his thoughts on marriage plans. He explained, “Originally, I thought I’d get married around 48, but lately, I really want to have a baby. Older friends tell me it gets harder with age and advise me to do it sooner.”
Korean netizens reacted:
"It's no secret that people who would date, can date."
"This is true for regular people, too, though. Even if you have a lot of people opposite sex around you, if you don't want to date, you don't date. Vice versa."
"I thought he was going to share some unknown secret. lol."
"Everyone knows this. We just don't address it. lol."
"I'm sure idols all date behind the scenes. lol."
"This is such an obvious truth he stated. lol."
"It's a secret everyone knows. lol."
"This is a secret everyone knows, but we don't want to know openly. lol"
"The entertainment industry is also where people gather. So it's no surprise."
"Who doesn't know this?"
"Everyone knows idols date each other. They just keep it unknown. lol."
"He's stating the obvious..."
