G-Dragon of BIGBANG held his ‘Übermensch’ world tour in Hong Kong from August 8th to 10th at the AsiaWorld–Arena.
On August 10th KST, a fan posted a video titled “GD HK D2” along with a butterfly emoji on their Chinese social media account. The footage showed G-Dragon performing his 2009 track “Butterfly”, smiling warmly as he looked around the packed venue.
However, one disruptive audience member, identified as A, drew backlash. As soon as G-Dragon turned toward their section, A pulled out an LED placard hidden on their lap and waved it vigorously toward the stage. The sign read, “Bring Seungri back.”
Upon seeing the sign, G-Dragon quickly averted his gaze, looked around, and moved away from that side of the stage. Local fans reacted negatively, leaving comments such as, “This is truly embarrassing,” “LED placards are banned inside the venue,” and “Does anyone know who that person is?” Some even began digging into A’s personal information.
A, however, remained unapologetic, posting on their own social media, “That placard was mine” and “When the lights went out, I held it up for a long time so G-Dragon could see it.”
This Hong Kong stop marked G-Dragon’s first performance in the city in about eight years, and tickets sold out immediately upon release. The official ticket price was about 420,000 KRW(~300 USD), but scalping drove VIP seats on the final night up to around 21 million KRW(~15.000), sparking further controversy.
Seungri, a former BIGBANG member, was expelled from the entertainment industry in 2019 after being implicated as a central figure in the Burning Sun scandal. He was indicted on nine charges, including prostitution, arranging prostitution, violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (illegal filming), habitual gambling, violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, violating the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, and instigating special assault. He was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison in 2022 and was released in February 2023 after serving his full term at Yeoju Prison.
