tvN is launching a refreshing new dating reality show titled ‘A Genuinely Good Person,’ premiering on August 3 at 7:50 PM KST.
In this program, celebrities take on the role of matchmakers, introducing their close friends whom they personally vouch for as genuinely good people, in the hopes of helping them find meaningful connections.
Unlike traditional dating shows, ‘A Genuinely Good Person’ focuses on the real-life friends of celebrities, with the stars themselves taking the lead in creating potential love stories. They’ll guide their friends through the dating process, observe from the sidelines, and offer candid commentary, adding heartfelt and humorous moments to each episode.
The celebrity lineup includes Jo Se Ho, Kang So Ra, Kim Nam Hee, Heo Young Ji, (Mijoo) Lee Mi Joo, Ji Ye Eun, Kim Young Kwang, and Lee Kwan Hee. These stars will introduce their handpicked friends, offering viewers a rare glimpse into their personal networks and why they believe their friends are worth rooting for. Watching the stars react to and support their friends’ romantic experiences is expected to be one of the most entertaining aspects of the show.
Jo Se Ho, known for his wide network and sociable nature, is drawing attention for the mystery friend he’ll be bringing. Kang So Ra, well known for her roles in ‘Misaeng’ and ‘Sunny’, is also generating buzz. She has previously showcased her genuine personality and charm, particularly during a friendship trip with her fellow ‘Sunny’ cast members.
Kim Nam Hee, who impressed audiences with his acting in ‘Mr. Sunshine’ and ‘Reborn Rich’, is a rare face in variety shows, which adds to the excitement surrounding his participation.
Heo Young Ji (formerly of KARA), Lee Mi Joo (formerly of Lovelyz), and Ji Ye Eun are also joining the show, each bringing their own energy and flair. Heo has been active across various fields including music, acting, and variety. Lee Mi Joo’s bubbly personality and honest wit have made her a fan favorite on every show she joins. Ji Ye Eun has quickly risen as a beloved variety star through ‘SNL Korea’ and ‘Running Man,’ and her new role as a matchmaker promises even more laughs.
Athletes Kim Young Kwang and Lee Kwan Hee round out the lineup. Kim, a former national football team goalkeeper, has made a name for himself in entertainment since retirement. Lee, a current professional basketball player nicknamed "the Park Bo Gum of basketball," became a breakout star on ‘Single’s Inferno 3’ and is now returning to the dating scene with a new twist.
With its diverse cast of matchmakers from various backgrounds, ‘A Genuinely Good Person’ is already capturing public attention. The main promotional image features all eight celebrities alongside the tagline,“A dating reality where stars guarantee their closest friends”. Teasers also highlight quirky superlatives like “the friend who looks like Gong Yoo” or “the friend who has it all,” building anticipation ahead of the premiere.
The show’s teaser clips are further boosting anticipation. In a 15-second teaser, Jo Se Ho is seen posting a flyer that reads “Looking for a partner for my friend,” with keywords like “genuinely good” and “butterflies ahead” flashing across the screen.
Another teaser showcases Kang So Ra and Kim Nam Hee enthusiastically describe their friends: “My friend is like an idol dancer, gentle and sweet,” and “My friend is truly pure and adorable,” fueling curiosity about who these mystery matches might be.
