NewJeans fan group known as Team Bunnies has reportedly been referred to prosecutors for violating the South Korean Donation Solicitation Act.

According to reports, the case was officially submitted to the prosecution by the Jongam Police Station in Seoul on July 10.

This action follows an investigation into the group’s crowdfunding practices, which authorities now view as unlawful. Journalists covering the story have confirmed with police sources that the referral to the prosecution has taken place.

Team Bunnies gained attention for organizing large-scale support campaigns for NewJeans, including public advertisements and promotional events. However, the group has faced growing criticism over a lack of transparency in its financial activities. Although they claim their work was non-profit and aimed at protecting the artists, concerns have been raised regarding the intent and actual use of the funds.

One legal expert pointed out that the group reportedly raised about 50 million KRW (approximately $38,000). This amount is considered unusually high for a typical fan-driven campaign and has led to suspicions of a more organized structure behind their actions. Beyond simple fan support, the group is believed to have funded legal activities, such as establishing legal offices and submitting formal complaints, which suggest a broader agenda.

Authorities are also looking into potential links between the group and certain activist or legal networks. Their involvement with lawyers and engagement in civic-related actions has fueled speculation about external influence or coordination.

Investigators have reportedly identified the individuals involved and secured financial records. The next stage of the investigation will focus on determining whether the group acted under outside instructions or used the donations to support private or political interests.

Legal professionals state that if the allegations prove accurate, the group may be required to submit full financial disclosures, including transaction histories and legal expense reports. The focus is on whether the donations, which were collected under the pretext of public support, were used for other purposes.

As questions continue to grow about the true nature of Team Bunnies’ activities and financial practices, this case could become a significant example for how fan-led fundraising is managed and legally regulated in South Korea.
