On July 17, Mnet issued an official statement concerning the recent character controversy involving Kim Geon Woo, a participant in their upcoming boy group survival show 'BOYS II PLANET,' which surfaced shortly before the program’s premiere.
Mnet stated, “The production team of 'BOYS II PLANET' acknowledges the seriousness of the allegations raised. We are currently conducting a thorough verification of the facts related to the claims made on social media.”
The broadcaster further explained, “We are gathering information not only from the individual referenced in the posts but also from former employees of B Entertainment, where the trainee was formerly affiliated, as well as other relevant parties. Separately, we are carefully examining whether the issue entails any legal ramifications.”
Earlier on the same day, a social media account titled 'BOYS II PLANET K-Group Center Kim Geon Woo Expose' was created, posting multiple allegations against Kim Geon Woo.
According to the posts, Kim Geon Woo was reportedly given preferential treatment during his tenure as a trainee at B Entertainment, allegedly to the extent of being regarded as a ‘king.’ The posts also raised suspicions of embezzlement, alleging that he took company funds for private trips with certain staff members.
Additionally, the allegations included claims that Kim Geon Woo engaged in verbal abuse and personal attacks against fellow trainees, with the author identifying themselves as one of the affected individuals.
The author of the posts explained their motive, stating, “I believe it is necessary to disclose the trainee’s past misconduct and character issues to the public promptly to mitigate potential harm to the program.”
Despite the controversy, 'BOYS II PLANET,' a large-scale global boy group project, is scheduled to premiere on July 17 at 9:20 PM KST.
