Actor Jang Geun Suk is set to share the emotional story of his battle with thyroid cancer on the upcoming episode of MBC’s variety show 'Radio Star', airing July 16 KST.
Returning to variety TV after a long break, Jang Geun Suk admitted this was his first time inside the MBC headquarters in Sangam. “I’ve only been to the café in the back before,” he said, adding, “Radio Star is a program I’ve always wanted to be on.”
During the show, he reflects on his illness, revealing, “I waited 10 months for surgery and couldn’t even tell my family.” He shared that overcoming the disease sparked a renewed desire to stand in front of even more fans, emphasizing how the experience reshaped his priorities.
He also spoke about resuming his career in Japan, including busking, EDM performances, and concept-heavy musical stages. “My fanbase in Japan now includes people in their 70s,” he said, jokingly adding, “Some are as passionate as Gangnam moms,” drawing laughter from the studio.
In a segment where he humorously maps out the history of Korean wave (Hallyu) stars in Japan, he mentions fellow actors like Bae Yong Joon, Park Bo Gum, and Chae Jong Hyup, placing himself among them.
Known for his bold fashion choices, Jang Geun Suk also touched on his signature airport fashion looks. “I don’t rely on sponsors—my style is my own,” he said, revisiting some of his iconic outfits with a laugh.
Jang Geun Suk’s heartfelt stories and candid humor will be featured on 'Radio Star', airing July 16 at 10:30 p.m. KST on MBC.
