Choi Minhwan returns to the spotlight following a hiatus and controversy.
Choi Minhwan, drummer of the K-pop rock band F.T. Island, has resumed activity on social media ahead of his domestic comeback, drawing attention following a long hiatus prompted by personal controversy.
On July 11, Choi posted a photo of drumsticks on his social media along with the caption “FNC Band Kingdom.” On the same day, fellow FNC artist Kang Minhyuk of CNBLUE shared a similar photo of drumsticks taken from a different angle. Kang also tagged a number of FNC band drummers in his post, including Choi Minhwan, Kim Jaehyun of N.Flying, and members from Hi-Fi Un!corn and AxMxP.
These musicians are set to perform in 'FNC Band Kingdom 2025,' a large-scale FNC Entertainment band showcase taking place on July 12 and 13 at Makuhari Messe Event Hall in Chiba, Japan.
Choi Minhwan’s return to public attention is notable, as it marks his first public activity since a personal scandal last year. Choi married former LABOUM member Yulhee in 2018 and the couple has one son and twin daughters. However, in December 2023, the couple announced their divorce. Following their separation, Yulhee made public allegations regarding Choi’s private life, which stirred controversy. Choi was investigated on charges including solicitation and sexual misconduct but was ultimately cleared due to lack of evidence.
Looking ahead, Choi Minhwan is scheduled to officially resume domestic activities in August. F.T. Island will hold their solo concert, [2025 FTISLAND LIVE 'MAD HAPPY’] on August 23 and 24 at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall (formerly known as SOL Travel Hall) in Seoul.
In response to the group’s upcoming events, F.T. Island’s Lee Hongki shared a message with fans via Weverse, saying, “Thank you. I had a lot on my mind and worries, but I’ll prepare this with joy.”
