Mnet has issued an official apology following a personal data leak during the audience application process for its audition program ‘Boys Planet 2’. The incident, which occurred on June 16, 2025 KST, exposed the personal information of some applicants due to a system configuration error.

According to the Mnet production team, the issue began when the first round of audience applications opened at 6:00 p.m. KST on June 16. A technical glitch in the online portal allowed some applicants to view information submitted by others, including names, birthdates, email addresses, contact numbers, and the contestants they supported.

Upon discovering the issue, the production team shut down the portal at 6:33 p.m. KST and blocked further exposure. Applications resumed shortly afterward without further incidents.

Mnet clarified that the cause was not hacking or a system failure, but rather a misconfiguration in the platform settings. The production team emphasized its commitment to preventing future issues and announced a comprehensive review of its data management procedures, especially when using external platforms.

No reports of secondary damage have been identified so far. However, the team is actively monitoring the situation and urges anyone who may have experienced related problems to contact them via email.

Below is the full official statement released by the Mnet production team on June 17 KST

[Official Notice: Personal Information Exposure Incident Contained]

This is the production team of Mnet ‘BOYS II PLANET’.

We would like to express our sincerest apologies for the incident in which data that may have contained personal information was exposed during the ‘Audience Application’ process for the 1st competition.

On Monday, June 16, 2025, at 6:00 PM KST, during the online application process, certain applicants were able to view data that may have included personal details of previous applicants — such as names, dates of birth, email addresses, contact numbers, and the contestant they supported.

Immediately upon recognizing the issue, we took swift action to block the exposure path and fully completed the relevant measures by 6:33 PM KST the same day.
Since then, the ‘Audience Application’ process has continued without further issue.

This incident was not caused by external hacking or a system failure, but rather due to a configuration error in the online application format.
The production team takes this matter with utmost seriousness.

We are conducting a comprehensive review of our personal data collection and management procedures and will strengthen security verification processes, particularly when utilizing external platforms, to ensure such issues do not recur.

Furthermore, we are actively monitoring the situation to prevent any secondary damage, such as misuse of exposed information.
As of now, no such cases have been identified.
However, if you experience or suspect any related issues, we ask that you report them to the email address below.
We will respond promptly and responsibly.

We once again extend our deepest apologies to all applicants and will make every effort to ensure safer and more reliable operations going forward.
