g.o.d’s Park Joon Hyung responds gracefully to controversy over Gyeongju mayor’s remarks.
Amid growing backlash from fans over controversial remarks made by Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak Young, Park Joon Hyung of veteran K-pop group g.o.d responded with a message of encouragement and understanding.
On June 9th, Park posted on his personal channel:
“No matter what anyone says, we’re okay. It’s not like this is our first or last day doing this. You know what I mean? I just hope none of you are hurt by someone’s careless words. We’re okay—so please open your hearts and don’t let it get to you.”
He added, “Don’t let the little things stress you out. We still have bigger things ahead.”
Park’s message was in response to fans’ outrage following Mayor Joo’s alleged comment during the recording of KBS2TV’s Immortal Songs in Gyeongju that day, where he reportedly referred to g.o.d as “washed-up singers.” The event also featured performances by Hwa Sa, ATEEZ, Lee Seung Yoon, Song So Hee, Jeong Dong Won, ZO ZAZZ, Kiiikiii, and PSY.
Following the mayor’s comment, the Gyeongju City Hall website was flooded with posts demanding an official apology, with titles such as “Request for Mayor Joo Nak Young’s Official Apology” and “Demanding Clarification and a Sincere Apology for the Inappropriate Remark.”
Taking it upon himself to calm fans, Park Joon Hyung concluded his message with heartfelt thanks:
“It was a hot day, and I know you all worked hard. You’re always the best. To the little ones who traveled all the way to see us, be careful going back and stay cool. See you soon. Your energy gave me strength.”
