The late actress Kim Sae Ron's former manager 'K' has filed a complaint against YouTuber Kwon Young Chan at the Seocho Police Station in Seoul on June 19, accusing him of spreading false information.
According to the complaint obtained by Sports Seoul on June 20, it stated, “In an attempt to attract public interest, [Kwon Young Chan] created content containing false information. The accused defamed and insulted the complainant with baseless and malicious claims related to the deceased's death on his channel, Kwon Young Chan TV.”
The level of slander was reportedly severe. Kwon Young Chan allegedly used phrases like “the guy who sold her off,” “slave hunter,” “the one who caused her death,” and “K is the one who leaked all the information” to attack K. In the complaint, K stated, “Despite not being a public figure, my real name and face were continuously exposed. Claims were made that I sold Kim Sae Ron to an unknown person, leaked all information, and caused her death, all of which are untrue.”
Kwon Young Chan also alleged that manager K had groomed Kim Sae Ron (i.e., subjected her to sexual abuse and exploitation) and estranged her from her family. He claimed on his broadcast, “K isolated her. He trapped her into an island. Grooming is not something special. It’s about raising someone while gaining control over their soul.”
'K' refuted these claims by pointing out that the timeline made such a relationship impossible. He said, “Kim Sae Ron became affiliated with Management Run under an exclusive contract in January 2024. I only got to know her then. She had been facing difficulties in her career due to her past DUI incident (May 18, 2022), and I was helping and supporting her comeback.”
K also clarified that he informed her family immediately when the incident occurred. “I called an ambulance right away to save her, and then I called her mother to let her know. Her mother replied, ‘I can’t come right now.’ So the claim that I didn’t inform her family is absurd.”
Regarding the controversy over hospital expenses, K said, “Accusations that I embezzled the hospital fees or violated medical laws are defamatory and false.”
Speaking with Sports Seoul, K said, “I’ve worked as a manager for 20 years. I stayed silent amid baseless suspicions to protect the deceased’s honor. But seeing these groundless claims being broadcast publicly and repeatedly, I decided I could no longer stay silent and filed the complaint.”
Meanwhile, Kwon Young Chan released a statement to the press, saying, “I sent a long KakaoTalk message to K because I had questions. I called him over ten times and sent more messages, but received no reply. So I asked the questions in the form of a broadcast.”
