Seohyun and Taecyeon, stars of the new KBS2 drama 'The First Night with the Duke,' shared their thoughts on following the footsteps of YoonA and Junho, who recently impressed viewers with their chemistry in 'King the Land.'
On June 11, Seohyun and Taecyeon attended the press conference for 'The First Night With the Duke,' held at The Saint Wedding Hall in D-Cube City, Sindorim, Seoul. Director Lee Woong Hee and fellow cast members Kwon Han Sol, Seo Beom Joon, and Ji Hye Won also attended the event.
This drama marks Seohyun’s return to KBS after three years since 'Jinxed at First' and Taecyeon’s return after two years since 'Heartbeat.' While Seohyun and Taecyeon had interacted during their idol days with Girls’ Generation and 2PM, this is their first time acting together in a drama.
Their pairing follows the success of 'King the Land,' which featured Girls’ Generation’s YoonA and 2PM’s Junho and captivated audiences with viewership ratings nearing 15% by the finale. Naturally, fans are excited to see another Girls’ Generation–2PM duo take the stage.
At the event, Taecyeon candidly shared, “I decided to do it because Seohyun said she would. Acting with a fellow second-generation idol is exciting and fun. We weren’t close back then (when we were idols), but I remember her always carrying around a book with her. When I read the script, I could imagine someone like that diving into this story, which helped me view it positively.”
Seohyun also expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “When I heard that Taecyeon oppa was doing the role, I thought I absolutely had to join too. He just is the (ideal) male lead, his visuals, his physique, everything. He fits the role so well, and he’s a genuinely kind person.”
Regarding YoonA and Junho’s previous on-screen chemistry, Taecyeon added, “I hope we can carry on that good energy.”
Meanwhile, 'The First Night with the Duke' is a romantic fantasy sageuk drama set to air after '24-Hour Health Club.' It tells the story of a seemingly ordinary college student who is transported into the world of a historical novel, where she inhabits the body of a supporting character and ends up spending a night with the most powerful male lead in the universe.
The drama airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 p.m. KST on KBS2, and the first episode aired on June 11.
