Netflix has released a behind-the-scenes video for 'Lost in Starlight,' its first Korean animated feature film. 

Set in Seoul in the year 2050, the story follows Nanyeong, a young woman training to become an astronaut, and Jay, a former musician who has given up on his dreams. As they meet and connect, the film explores love, ambition, and the power of dreams.

The behind-the-scenes video offers a deeper look into the creative process. Director and writer Han Ji Won shares her vision for the project, explaining that she wanted to create a film about love in all its forms. From romantic love between the main characters to the support of family and the pursuit of personal dreams, the film reflects different ways love can shape our lives.

Inspired by the idea of what it would be like if the present became the past, Han imagined a near-future version of Seoul. Instead of creating a distant sci-fi world, she aimed for something more grounded and relatable. She combined futuristic elements like holograms and neon signage with retro textures and real-world materials to build a setting that feels both familiar and imaginative.

The film’s design draws from iconic Seoul landmarks such as Sewoon Sangga, Cheonggyecheon, and Seoul Station. It also incorporates nostalgic details like LP records and turntables, creating a visually unique style that blends past and future. This mix gives the film a distinctly Korean retro-cyberpunk feel.

Actors Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung played a major role in shaping the film’s emotional tone. They were involved in live-action shoots, voice acting, and character development from the early stages.

Their performances helped build the chemistry between Nanyeong and Jay, adding warmth and authenticity to the story. Han noted that their natural, unscripted acting brought energy and emotion to each scene.

Music is another key element of 'Lost in Starlight.' The soundtrack features contributions from artists such as John Park, Kim Daniel of wave to earth, and CIFIKA. Unlike typical animation scores, the music in this film has a unique tone and style. Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung also participated in writing some of the lyrics, giving the songs an added emotional layer.

'Lost in Starlight' offers a romantic story that many people can relate to, brought to life through detailed animation, heartfelt performances, and a memorable soundtrack. The film invites viewers into a world where the past and future exist side by side, and where love and dreams remain timeless.

'Lost in Starlight' will be released exclusively on Netflix on Friday, May 30.
